Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is now my favored photo organization program. It is amazingly fast, fairly easy to understand, and is very geospatially aware. That is clear in these two images that show the tally of my geotagged field photographs from my two favorite rivers in the world...theOwyhee River and the lower Colorado River. As you zoom in or out, the photo pins expand or collapse accordingly to illustrate photo locations in a scale-sensitive way. Now, if some GIS-genius could just figure out how to do that with my geologic maps...

I didn't just go to two rowdy Primus concerts in Reno last week. I also did some weekend field work to capture good images of one of my old map areas. These photos show some choice exposures of Lake Lahontan stratigraphy exposed along the lower Truckee River near Nixon, NV. Lots of stuff and time going on here. However, the last photo shows what looks (to me) much like 'herringbone' cross-stratification in a unequivocally non-tidal environment. That is what I went to photograph. This is one hell of an interesting area.

We found this spectacular stuff on some old terraces of the Gila River east of Yuma, AZ, last week. I look at a lot...a lot of varnished river gravel in the desert, and these surfaces have possibly the overall darkest and most irridescent varnish that I have yet seen.
